Frequently Asked Questions about Whatsminers

What sets Whatsminer apart from Antminer?

Both are professional Bitcoin ASIC miners. Whatsminers by MicroBT are known for being especially robust in 24/7 operation — which is exactly why many farms rely on them. Antminers by Bitmain have the larger ecosystem of accessories and firmware options. Efficiency across current generations is comparable; in practice, price, availability and your setup decide.

Which M models exist and how do they differ?

The M series is MicroBT's Bitcoin line: older generations like the M31S+ are affordable workhorses and popular as heating miners, the M50 line was the farm standard for a long time, and the current M60 generation delivers the best efficiency — noticeably more hashrate per watt than its predecessors. The condition (new or used) is stated on every product page in our shop.

How do I quiet a Whatsminer — do Antminer shrouds fit?

Antminer shrouds don't fit — the cases differ, which is why we carry dedicated Whatsminer fan shrouds. The principle is the same: route the exhaust outside through a hose, or convert to external cooling with an inline fan, and the noise drops from the stock 70–80 dB towards whisper level.

Which power supply does a Whatsminer need?

Whatsminers use MicroBT's own PSUs (such as the P21 and P22 families), matched to the specific model — they are not compatible with Antminer power supplies. When buying used, always make sure the correct original PSU is included; in our listings it's part of the scope of delivery unless stated otherwise.

Is there alternative firmware for Whatsminer?

The third-party scene is smaller than for Antminer: MicroBT's stock firmware, however, ships with several performance modes (eco, normal, high) that let you regulate power draw and noise. First third-party options are appearing for the newer series — but for normal operation, the stock firmware is entirely sufficient.

How loud is a Whatsminer?

Stock, it plays in the same league as an Antminer: 70–80 dB — built for the warehouse, not the living room. With a shroud, hose and external fan a Whatsminer becomes home-compatible too — or you throttle it via the firmware's eco mode, which lowers noise and power draw at the same time.
