Frequently Asked Questions about Wallet Accessories

Do I actually need accessories for my hardware wallet?

Not to make it work — every hardware wallet is complete out of the box. Accessories solve specific everyday problems: protective cases keep touchscreen devices like the Ledger Flex and Stax free of scratches on the go, the Blockstream JadeLink extends the Jade Plus with a fully air-gapped workflow, and the OneKey Lite adds a PIN-protected card to your seed backup setup. The most important "accessory", however, remains the metal seed backup — that belongs with every wallet.

What is the Blockstream JadeLink?

A USB-C storage drive developed specifically for the Blockstream Jade Plus. It enables fully air-gapped firmware updates and transaction signing via files: you save the unsigned transaction (PSBT) from your wallet software onto the JadeLink, plug it into the Jade Plus, verify recipient and amount on the display and confirm — with no USB data connection to your computer and no Bluetooth. Unlocking the device and verifying receive addresses work the same way.

What is the OneKey Lite — does it replace my seed backup?

The OneKey Lite is a credit-card-sized NFC card that stores your recovery phrase encrypted and PIN-protected in a certified secure element chip — after several wrong attempts the card wipes itself. It works well as a convenient second backup, precisely because the seed is not stored in plaintext. It is not a full replacement for a metal backup though: it is electronics with a limited chip lifespan and not built for fire. Metal remains the robust foundation; the card is the comfortable addition.

Which case fits which Ledger model?

The cases are model-specific and not interchangeable: the Ledger Flex takes the fitted protective cases, the Ledger Stax the magnetic Magnet Shells in various colors, and the Nano Gen5 the Magnet Folio. All of them leave ports and controls accessible, so the device stays fully usable inside the case. Just check which model you own before ordering — the model name is part of each product title.

Does a protective case make my Bitcoin more secure?

No — and that is the most important point on this page. A case protects the device against scratches and drops, not your coins: those are protected by PIN and secure element, and even the total loss of the device costs you nothing as long as your seed backup exists. The security of your Bitcoin is decided by how you store things — seed secured on metal, kept physically separate from the device, never photographed or noted digitally. Get that right and your setup is secure with or without a pouch; get it wrong and even the best case won't help.
